FEBC Basic Theology For Everyone (BTFE)

Theme: Basic Theology for Everyone (BTFE) - 12 courses offered online from July 20 to November 12, 2020.

6-day classes and 3-night classes will be via live stream. In addition, 3 online courses will be offered.

To encourage and help everyone to register for the FEBC courses, our church office will assist you with registration and payments of the fees.

The Session has also agreed to give a ONE TIME 50% subsidy on the fees. For those who have registered, you can make payment through us or claim your 50% subsidy.

BASIC THEOLOGY FOR EVERYONE

BTFE ONLINE

(1) Twelve courses are offered to the laity/public in the new semester commencing 20 July 2020.

(2) Owing to the COVID-19 situation, the laity/public will take the day/night classes online until further notice.

(3) Day/Night classes will be via live stream.

(4) All who wish to take the classes whether for credit or audit must register online.

 

DAY CLASSES

1 THESSALONIANS

Rev Tan Kian Sing

Monday (starting July 27), 9.30-11.30am, 2 credits

This course will study 1 Thessalonians in depth to discover its biblical and theological truths and apply these truths to the church today.

 

WOMEN IN THE BIBLE

Carol Lee, BBA, DipEd, MEd, MDiv

Tuesday (starting July 21), 2-3pm, 1 credit

This course is a biographical study of women in the Bible in order to gain a deeper understanding of these women and draw practical lessons from their examples and testimonies for Christians today.

 

THEOLOGY OF PRAYER

Wednesday (starting July 22), 10.30am-12.30pm, 2 credits

This course seeks to lay a biblical foundation for a life and ministry of prayer. It will teach believers how to cultivate a prayerful Christian life in light of the Scriptures.

 

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES

This course will study the book of Acts to discover its biblical and theological truths and apply these truths to the church today.

 

INTERTESTAMENTAL HISTORY

This course is a survey of the historical, political, social, economic, and religious settings of the Mediterranean world in general and the land of Palestine in particular in the period in between the Old and New Testament (400 BC-AD 100).

 

CONTEMPORARY THEOLOGY I

This course seeks to examine and expose the current theological trends in Christendom with a focus on the modern text and versions movement.

HERMENEUTICS

Monday (starting July 20), 7.30-9.30 pm, 2 credits

The Bible is a living Book, inspired and preserved by God Himself. It is a Book that must be correctly understood and obeyed for the believer’s benefit. This course seeks to study the principles of biblical interpretation that stem from the Bible itself.

 

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY III: SOTERIOLOGY

Thursday (starting July 23), 7.30-9.30 pm, 2 credits

Soteriology is the study of what the Bible teaches about salvation. It involves the study of the hypostatic union of Christ, the doctrine and the application of the substitutionary atonement of Christ, the doctrine of election and reprobation, and the doctrine of the Church and the sacraments.

 

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY I: THEISM (CHINESE)

Theism is the study of the nature and attributes of God, the evidences for the existence of God, the doctrine of the Trinity, the works of God, the decrees of God, and the meaning of the divine inspiration and preservation of the Bible.

A study of the Minor Prophets will help us know more deeply how loving and merciful God is. We shall discover His prophecies and judgements, and how longsuffering He was as He dealt with the nation of Israel and the nations of this sinful world.

 

ECCLESIASTES

Life without God is empty—it is “vanity and a vexation of spirit”. On the other hand, life with God is very meaningful. Ecclesiastes teaches God’s people how to live a life full of hope and joy in the face of life’s many difficulties and troubles.

John Calvin said, “True wisdom principally consists of two parts—the knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves.” The study of Calvin’s Institutes is the worshipful study of God and reverential application of the divine knowledge in our daily life.

 

EARN YOUR CERTIFICATE

Certificate of Religious Knowledge (CertRK)

The CertRK is a Bible study programme at the basic level. The successful completion of 20 credits earns the CertRK.

 

Certificate of Biblical Studies (CertBS)

The CertBS is a Bible study programme at the advanced level. The successful completion of 40 credits (or 20 credits beyond the CertRK) earns the CertBS.
