A missions team of 10 people left LCCT on 26 November 2008. We took a direct flight to Chiangmai in the morning. Bangkok airport was closed due to the occupation by the anti-government protesters the night before. We thank God for not having to make a transit at Bangkok. Chiangmai is located about 800-900km to the north of Bangkok. This province is bordering with northern Myanmar. We touched down at Chiangmai airport safely. Things were calm and the weather was refreshing in the winter season. The embattled Prime Minister of Thailand returning from Peru also landed here after we left the airport.

Preacher Xiong Fu Man and daughters greeted us at the airport and brought us to the Phrao Enfu Church. We stayed for a night before we travelled to Chiangrai. We came to a border town at the north-east called Chiangkhong. There we visited Preacher Chang Min Shen. Preacher Chang started a gospel ministry here in May. A number of children attend the Sunday School here.

We stayed in an inn that faced Mekong River. Across the river, we see a town in Laos. People from the two countries can move across the Mekong River in a few minutes by boat. Frequently, the Laotians use the medical facilities in Thailand. After staying there for one night, we returned to Phrao in preparation for thanksgiving Lord’s Day.

About 250-300 people attended the Thanksgiving Worship. Quite a number of them came from the tribal villages. These Christians were dressed in their traditional costumes. In the Children Choir presentation, they brought tokens of God’s goodness to their land, for example ginger, bananas, lemon grass, and etc. Someone brought about 50kg sack of grain early in the morning.

“Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof. Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing,” Psalm 65:9-13.

The situation in Bangkok worsened as the days passed by during our trip. Some of the church members and friends sent us messages or called us to enquire our safety. Many of you prayed for us. We thank God for your concern and supplications before the throne of grace. The Lord was with us and saw us through the whole journey. Our flight took off from Chiangmai airport as scheduled. We arrived home safely.

Pray for Thailand that they may have good governance of the country. Pray for wisdom for the new Prime Minister and his cabinet. Pray for the people also that many may come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
